DIORAMA PROJECT- Variants of Existence : The Single Scene Setting
The project is stimulated from an auction at Christies “Come as you are’: DJ Kool Herc and the birth of Hip-Hop” and an assigned room period room at the MET Museum as a style prompt. Groups will create a Diorama based on drawing together the histories and narratives of a period room in the Wrightsman Galleries and the historic cultural narrative of DJ Herc. Students are tasked to research and create a Diorama based on the prompts in a well-designed single frame. My period room was the Boudoir from the Hôtel de Crillon designed by Pierre-Adrien. The diorama tells a tale and is a mash-up- of DJ Herc and the Boudoir room, highlighting the cultural memory of each and integrating the stories I have researched and learned. The 3D memoir can take a conceptual turn in terms of themes connected to the subject matter, such as ambition, revolution, wealth, suspicion to contradiction, suppression, material culture, ascendance, etc.
